Benue State Government will on Friday, November, 3rd, 2023 burnt down expired drugs worth over 100 million naira.
The drugs were kept at the drug store of the Muhammad Buhari Mother and Child Care Hospital located along the David Mark Bypass, Makurdi.
The information officer at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH Cephas Hough, disclosed this to our correspondent on the phone on Wednesday.
According to him, the new Chief Medical Director of Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Stephen Hwande, disclosed this during a tour of the facility at the hospital.
It will be recalled that the hospital was built by the administration of Muhammad Buhari and handed over to the state government under the Governor Samuel Ortom administration, but was not put to use.
When asked why the drugs were not dispensed, the information officer said that the former CMD, BSUTH, was to answer that.
Hough said that the destruction of the expired drugs would be done on Friday, November 3, 2023, by NAFDAC.
According to the information officer, “The CMD went to flag off service at the complex because the place was not functional.
It was in the process of adding that the new CMD mentioned that. We will do the destruction in conjunction with NAFDAC.
“Services have commenced there, some of the departments have moved there, and the place is functional 24 hours a day.”
