AS the crisis between Fulani herders and Farmers in Benue State rages, the state government has commenced process of evacuating the herders out of the state.
Governor Ortom stated this late Monday while addressing the displaced persons at the LGEA primary school in Buruku during his tour of the attacked communities by herders last weekend where over ten persons were reported dead.
Ortom explained that the security council had concluded arrangement to ease the herders out of the state so as to halt the incessant killings of Benue people.
Governor Ortom who was visibly angry at the sight of the displaced persons said, ‘it will get to a stage when the people will want to react and there is limit to which I can hold my people.’
“Already, arrangement is on with security agents in the state to lead the Fulani herdsmen out of the state, and this is expected to commence immediately, latest by Thursday you will go back to your various homes.”
Governor Ortom said ’there is no land available in the State for grazing’, adding, that ranching is the alternative.
“If there is anywhere land is available, we will gladly lead them. For now, we are begging them to leave because we are a peaceful people. We do not deserve to be killed this way. There is a limit I can hold my people”, Ortom added.
The hard line of the governor is coming as six persons from Ipav in Gboko local government was attacked Monday afternoon leading to the dead of another six persons.
Youths from the area had to protest the killings and barricaded Gboko/Katsina Ala road for several hours which prevented motorists from to sleep on the road.
