The newly appointed NYSC State Coordinator for Ondo, Mrs Kuburat Bakare has admonished corps members to focus more on how to become job creators rather than seek paid employment.
The State Coordinator gave the admonition in the state capital while addressing corps members during the Job Awareness and Creation (JAC) organised for 2023 Batch ‘C’ would-be passing out corps members.
Bakare, who disclosed that attention of the energetic graduate youths should be concentrated on how to enhance their academic certificates and add value to themselves hinted that the dictates of the present times have made skills acquisition the only way to economic prosperity and financial independence.
The NYSC Ondo State boss who spoke passionately about the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the Scheme said that NYSC should be credited for laying a solid foundation for the nation’s economic and technological advancement.
“My dear children in the service of our dear country, I want to talk to you as a mother who desires a better future for her children. Your parents have invested massively in your lives, and today, you hold intimidating academic certificates that are the envy of the society, you need to break new grounds through SAED which we have nurtured you with right from the orientation camp up till this present moment”.
She continued, “I am sure that your positive engagement and commitment to post-camp training has opened your eyes to various opportunities around you. This country is blessed with natural resources that can make you compete favourably with your peers and contemporaries around the world. All you need to do is to build your capacity through the avenue SAED has created “.
The Coordinator challenged the corps members to see the global economic downturn as an opportunity to put their dexterity to work as the SAED sub-skills introduced to them during the orientation course, which they perfected through post-camp training during the service year is enough to make them champions and future captains of industries and respected entrepreneurs.
She advised them to start small and grow their passion through hard work, commitment, discipline and financial prudence, while advising that cutting corners or engaging in sharp practices in climbing the ladder of success can only lead to regret and disappointment.
Speaking earlier, the Assistant Director/Head, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, Pastor (Mrs.) Jennifer Funmilola Dawodu enjoined the corps members to leverage on the trainings they have gone through during the service year to shape their future.
Dawodu, who praised the efforts of the management for the huge investment made through SAED to reduce unemployment and take the graduate youths off the labour market, encouraged the corps members to network with their colleagues to build the future for themselves.
My dear corps members, you have come to the threshold of who you want to be, and NYSC in the course of the service year, has exposed you to various skills that you have passion for, and I want to plead with you to network with one another to nurture your dreams to reality, as no greatness can be achieved in isolation”.
The Head, SAED appreciated all the Trainers/Facilitators that have remained the backbone of the success story of SAED programme in the state and urged them not to rest on their oars.
The JAC programme, where resource personnel, established and well grounded professionals in various fields are invited to give talk on the reality in the outside world, is designed to launch the corps members into a world of competition through harnessing their potentials in skill acquisition for national development after the service year.
