BAUCHI State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has risen in defence of President Muhammadu Buhari expressing concern over what he described as, “unguided comments” some prominent Nigerians are making in criticizing the economic policies of the administration.

The Governor in a press statement signed by his Press Secretary, Abubakar Al-Sadeeq called such comments as “self-serving publicity stunt that is meant to present the critics as ‘saints’ while covering up for their decimal performance while they held public offices”.

According to the release made available to newsmen Thursday, the Governor made the statement while commissioning projects executed by his administration at the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board.

The Governor observed that there is no country in contemporary history “that made massive economic intervention since the Marshall plan than Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari,” and wondered why such criticisms had to wait until the policies have already started yielding dividends.

“President Muhammadu Buhari came into office at the most trying moment of the nation’s history. His rescue mission was able to get the nation out of recession in less than two years, and somebody is saying the economic policy of the president is a failure, that person is the exemplary failure,” the Governor lamented.

Mohammed Abubakar also said that the foreign reserves of the country have been raised to over 40 billion USD, with an increase of nearly 35% over what the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari inherited when it came into office in 2015.

While commending the President for getting the country out of recession under two years, the governor urged other Nigerians to continue supporting the president in his selfless drive to return the nation to the path of greatness, and disregard the statements of “self-acclaimed social critics.”
