Bauchi State House of Assembly on Thursday adopted two motions calling on the state government to construct a 12-Kilometres road from Nasaru-Gidan Mada – Tudun Wasa – Dallaji – Masaruwa as well complete the ongoing road construction from Giade to Kurba to Basirka.
The first motion was moved by the Member representing Warji Constituency Hon. Garba Lawan while the second motion was moved by the Member representing Giade Constituency, Hon Abubakar Adamu during plenary.
Leading a debate on the motion, Hon. Garba Lawan said that the worsening economic situation in these areas has been exacerbated by poor road connection which has negatively affected agricultural production in the communities.
He added that the situation is bad even though the famous Galala Dam, which was constructed for the twin benefits of providing irrigation and potable drinking water, is located in the area.
He added that the road, when constructed, will ease transportation difficulties in trying to connect with the Local Government Headquarters and link to Nasaru Market where 60% of the marketers come from Warji Constituency.
According to him, “You are all aware that my Constituency is agrarian and endowed with huge economic potentials that shortage of accessible roads have truncated seamless flow of people and goods across varying length, hence the need of the road, so that it could provide favourable situation.”
The lawmaker, “It’s my belief that the construction of the 12 kilometres road will go along way in reshaping the economic compass of the affected so that the huge economic potentials obtained therein will be scaled on an open market determinants for improved livelihood of the entire Constituency.”
Hon. Garba Lawan therefore requested the House to urge the Executive Arm of Government to construct the road so as to ease accessibility problems and link up the area with larger markets for improved local economy.
In his contribution, Hon. Garba Adamu representing Ganjuwa West Constituency said that there is serious need of infrastructural development in the State especially in the rural and semi urban areas, therefore seconds that the road should be constructed.
Hon. Bello Sarkin Jadori representing Gamawa Constituency said that the motion is timely and he’s always in support of construction of rural roads, thus he urged the Government to come to the aide of the people of the area.
The House unanimously adopted the motion after the Speaker put the prayers to voice vote.
Also, Member representing Giade Constituency Hon. Abubakar Adamu Salihu moved a motion calling on the State Government to complete the ongoing road construction from Giade to Kurba to Basirka in Giade Constituency.
Leading a debate on the motion, Hon. Abubakar Adamu Salihu said that the project stopped and left at deplorable conditions causing hardship especially during the rainy season.
According to him, completion of the ongoing road construction l, which links more than 30 sub urban villages from Kurba in Giade Local Government to Basirka in Jigawa State, will expand economic activities in the area because the road serves as a nerve centre of economic activities of Giade Local Government Area in which 75% of revenue of the locals is drive from the areas.
He also explained that the completion of the project will reduce road crashes and improve traffic flow thereby reducing general road accidents caused by the dilapidated condition of the road.
Abubakar Adamu Salihu therefore urged the Honourable House to mandate its House Committee on Works to interface with the State Ministry of Works and other relevant stakeholders to determine why the road project has been stopped for a long period of time and request the State Government under the able leadership of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad to hasten the completion of the ongoing road project.
In his contribution, Hon. Nasiru Ahmed Ala representing Chinade/Madara Constituency said that as lawmakers, they represent their teaming people, therefore draws the attention of the Government to complete the road especially for the fact that Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad is a stabiliser.
He recalled that the Governor has completed many abandoned and uncompleted projects inherited from the previous administrations especially in Katagum Local Government, thus pleading to the Governor to kindly look into the request of the people of Giade.
Hon. Musa Wakili Nakwada representing Bogoro Constituency said Basirka is in Jigawa State, therefore completion of the project is very important because it will create a good relationship between Bauchi State and Jigawa State.
The House adopted the motion after the Speaker put the prayers to voice vote and adjourned to Tuesday 15th August, 2023, as moved and seconded by the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader.
