Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi has alerted members of the public to be ware of fraudsters parading in the social media with the aim of defrauding them.
The ATBU Management in a statement by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations described the development as ‘Fake Social Media Accounts’.
According to Zailani Bappa, Director of the Directorate, “The attention of the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sani Usman Kunya, is drawn by a good samaritan, to a fake facebook account opened in his name, obviously with the sole intent to scam innocent persons.”

He stated further that, “A screenshot of a transaction with the good samaritan revealed a direct attempt to lure the person into surrendering handsome amount of money to facilitate a supposed contract award.”
“In view of this, it has become necessary to alert the general public, especially our stakeholders, that the Acting Vice Chancellor will never engage in any official transaction with anyone on the social media, nor demand any financial favour for any purpose whatsoever,” Zailani Bappa added.
He stressed that,”In fact, the Acting Vice-Chancellor does not have a facebook account and has instructed no one to manage any social media account on his behalf.”
