ASUU, call off your strike now

I want to appeal to the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the ongoing strike as it is doing no one any good.

The essence of the strike is for the union to claim some money from the Federal Government, but I want the leadership of ASUU to look at what the government is passing through today as regard the issue of recession in the country.

I know that the agreement with government which ASUU is talking about predates the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, it is, therefore, important that the union allow reason to prevail.

President Buhari is still struggling to steady the ship of the country, and for ASUU to down tools because of an agreement that he was not part of is not fair enough.

I want ASUU to give this government time to sort itself out first. I am sure President Buhari is someone who loves education, and he will do everything in his power to ensure that the education system in the country is repositioned for the better.

Therefore, ASUU should end the strike without delay in the interest of the students.
