National Kakanda Development Association NKADA has advised riverine communities in Lapai local government of Niger to be on alert over the impending floods as predicted by NiMet.
The President of the socio-cultural association, Alhaji Ismaila Abdullahi gave the advice during its executive meeting held at his residence in Shango, Minna.
He noted that NiMet and other relevant authorities like NEMA, NIWA and governments have predicted and commenced enlightenment of the general public on this year’s anticipated floodings and its consequences, adding that over 33 riverine communities were being affected by flood disasters annually in these areas.
Alhaji Abdullahi however urged those in the affected areas to start moving from their ancestral homes in the lowland to the upland in order to avoid the negative impacts occasioned by the annual floodings in the local government areas of the State.
He further explained that the association has been involved in various interventions, settled communal disputes as well as embarked on community visitations and enlightenment programmes on different government programmes to ensure the development of the areas.
