Arigidi-Akoko community laments condition of road

The people of Arigidi Akoko /Iye Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State have lamented the state of the major road leading to Iye-Akoko.

The people said the development had been affecting the economic development of the area due to the bad state of road, just as they called for government’s intervention.

The people of the community, who are predominantly farmers, lamented that their only access road linking them with other communities had been cut off.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that this development has made it difficult for them to transport their farm produce to the market in Ikare-Akoko, among other urban areas.

A community leader from Iye-Akoko, Mr Joseph Ehindero, lamented that the state of the road has caused headache to the residents of the community, noting that the recent downpour had made the road inaccessible even for motorcycle riders.

He stressed that the elderly and sick children find it difficult to get to the nearest medical centre, as no commercial motorcycles ply the route.

He said: “The road had been abandoned by governments both local and state. I want to appeal to the state and local governments to give attention to the road before we finally cut off from other communities.”

Ehindero also lamented alleged poor attention from government, saying the people had been experiencing outage in the community for the past six years.

He said: “There is no electricity in this community. We have never enjoyed any infrastructural amenities, not even telecommunications, which is common. We have been cut off from the entire world completely.”

A farmer, Mrs Stella Jegede, lamented how Iye-Akoko are blessed with abundant arable land but farmers can no longer take their farm produce out of the community, adding that okada riders no longer ply the area while the few who do charge exorbitantly.

She also appealed to Ondo State government and Akoko North-West Local Government Area to come to their rescue.

A motorbike transporter, Zacheous, who used to ply the road said he had to stop because his motorcycle get damaged on daily basis, saying they visited mechanic at least, twice in a week.
