National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Saturday voted at his polling unit 047 at Sunday Adigun, Alausa in Ikeja, promising that his party would accept the outcome of a free a fair election.
Tinubu gave this promise while speaking with newsmen shortly after casting his vote saying a democrat would always accept the outcome of a free and fair election if his or her party should lose.
“I will accept the result of the election if we lose, the result is the people’s verdict, any democrat that cannot accept the result of a free and fair contest is not worthy of being called a democrat. He must be able to accept the result of a free and fair election,” the APC national leader said, even as he expressed determination that the APC would win the elections.
“Winning is my hope and determination for my party; we are winning because we have the support of the masses Take a look back at our rally, that is an indication of who has the populace, we are not talking about the elite, the rich, but the trader, artisan and the common man,” he said.
According to him, if the opposition rejected the outcome of the election, it showed they were not democrats, adding: “They don’t believe in the value and philosophy of democracy, you can see their desperation.”
Tinubu observed that the election had been successful so far, saying this had demonstrated how resilient Nigerians are.
He said he would give the electorate the credit because despite the fact that their hope was dashed last week when the election was postponed, they still came out in large number to cast their votes.
Tinubu also commended INEC for doing a great job, adding that the commission’s challenges had to do with nature.
“I am satisfied with what INEC is doing so far, You don’t drive yourself like a vehicle, you can easily develop fuel problem on the highway,” he said, adding that INEC’s challenges so far had to do with the problem of nature,” he said.
When asked about a bullion van spotted entering his house on Friday, Tinubu queried: “Bullion vans, are those ballot papers? Is it my money or government’s?”
“I don’t work for the government, let anybody come out and say I have taken a contract from Buhari in the last five years, let them prove it. If I have money to spend in my house, what is your business? Who are those watching my house?
Tinubu maintained that there was no iota of truth in an online video in circulation making the claim that he had bullion vans in his house distributing money.
“I am not a government contractor, and I don’t have bullion vans because I don’t have ballot papers. If I may ask, where am I voting now? This is not my house.
“They should prove it. I am on my own and committed to my party. Even if I have the money to spend in my premises, what is anybody’s headache since I don’t run the government?
“I can spend my money as I like and if I want; if it pleases me I can give it to the people free as long as it is not meant to buy votes.”
