The All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State congress is about commencing at the congress venue.
Delegates for the congress are from the 17 local government areas of the state and have been arriving and mounting their designated canopies.
The organizing chairman of the Congress, Chief Mrs Ada Ogbu-Odenigwe, Chief Flavour Eze, Hon. Ken Ofoma and other party top notchers were busy putting finishing touches to ensure a hitch-free congress.
The positions up for contest had been zoned as follows: Enugu East Senatorial district has the governorship as well as the offices of the State Secretary, Youth Leader, Financial Secretary, Legal Adviser, Assistant Organizing Secretary, Assistant Publicity Secretary, Assistant Welfare Secretary, Ex-officio (female), Ex-officio (male), Zonal Vice Chairman and other zonal offices.
Enugu West senatorial zone was allotted the positions of Speaker, Chairman,State Organizing Secretary, Auditor, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, Assistant Youth leader, Assistant Financial Secretary, Assistant Youth Leader, Assistant Financial Secretary, Assistant Women Leader, Ex-officio member, Zonal Vice Chairman, and other zonal offices.
For Enugu North senatorial district, the positions of the Deputy Governor and Deputy Chairman were allotted along with the National Officer, State State Publicity, Women Leader, State Treasurer, Special Leader(disabled persons), Assistant Legal Adviser, State Welfare Secretary, Assistant Auditor, South East Zonal Officer, Ex-officio,Zonal Vice Chairman and other zonal offices.
In the chairmanship race are two-time governorship candidate and political strategist, Barr Ugochukwu Agballah, former Gombe State Military administrator Group, Capt Joe Orji (rtd) and former Udi local council boss, Dr Walter Oji.
This congress taking place at the Bush House Event Centre, Enugu has the backing and alignment of the foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, Sen Ken Nnamani, and a former governor, among others.
Meanwhile, the faction loyal to embattled State Chairman, Barr Ben Nwoye, enjoys the support of those opposed to Onyeama’s leadership.
The Nwoye factor is reportedly holding a parallel congress with Chief Adolphus C.Ude as the most visible candidate for the chairmanship position.
