Former Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has picked the nomination form for the office of national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Checks revealed that the position was zoned to the North Central geo-political zone. Zamfara State is in the North West.
The leader of the delegation which picked the nomination form for the former Zamfara state governor, Senator Tijjani Kaura, however, claimed the office was zoned to the North and not any geopolitical zone in the region.
He said: “As far as we are concerned, there are contending issues concerning zoning. First of all, we are fully aware that the national Chairmanship has been zoned to the north and the presidency has been zoned to the South. As you are aware that all positions of the party that were hitherto in the south will go to the north. Zamfara being in the north is well qualified.
“We are very ready for the convention. Come 26th, Yari being one of the founding fathers of this great party and has contributed immensely and greatly to the betterment and welfare of this party. He is ready to lead the party and will not allow it to die.
“What the party needs now is a unifier. This was a party that was formed by the coming together of many parties. If care is not taken, the party will be so divided but Yari as a founding father will ensure that the party does not disintegrate.”

A delegation also picked the form on behalf of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Director-General of Yari Campaign Organisation who led the team, Honourable Lawrence Onuchukwu, said the former Nasarawa State governor has the capacity for the job and would reposition the party.
“If you have been following the antecedents of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, you will know and agree with me that this is the man that has the capacity and the capability to pilot the affairs of this great party. You will also agree with me if you are a member of this party that he was the chairman of nine members committee saddled with the responsibility of reconciling the party that made us have some Governors who joined the party. That alone is a major reason for us while he should come and pilot the affairs of this great party.”
Reacting to speculation that the former Nasarawa state governor has been anointed for the office of national chairman by President Muhammadu Buhari, he said: “If that rumour is anything to go by, it is a boost for us. Mr President as a man of integrity I’m sure will not want to associate himself with someone who does not have the capacity to actualise the vision of this party. And you are also aware that we must not pretend that the party has some challenges and you need an administrator, a politician, you need a person who can handle the party.”
Former Benue State Governor and Minister of Special Duties, George Akume, who also picked Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms said he would be willing to submit himself to a consensus arrangement.
Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,
Senator Barnabas Gemade who picked the form on behalf of Honourable Akume said the party has the final say in the mode of primary.
‘Whatever the party chooses. The party has the final say. If at the end of the day, the party is able to consummate a consensus exercise for this contest, we agree with it. “However if they decide there should be a balloting for this contest we will go with the balloting and whatever the outcome is, we will accept.”
Investigation by Tribune Online revealed that the National Executive Committee meeting will hold on Thursday as scheduled as the APC Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee continued on Wednesday with the preparation.
