The only effective treatment for cataracts is cataract surgery, which involves removing the cloudy lens of the eye and replacing it with a clear, artificial lens (IOL). Initially, you may manage mild cataracts with stronger glasses or improved lighting, but surgery is recommended when vision impairment starts affecting daily activities like reading or driving.

The surgical procedure is safe, effective, and usually takes about half an hour. Depending on the degree of the cataracts and the age of the person affected, cataracts can be treated in different ways.

These may range from medications to the use of ultraviolet rays and surgical excision.
