The Anambra State Resident Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Queen Elizabeth Ugwu, has declared that the Commission under her leadership has no special candidate for the November 8, 2025, governorship election in the state.
Ugwu made this statement while briefing journalists at the state commission’s headquarters in Awka on Wednesday. The briefing aimed to update the media on the Commission’s readiness for the upcoming electoral process.
She urged the public to disregard any rumors suggesting that INEC has a preferred candidate for the election.
According to her, the briefing also sought media collaboration and served as an official announcement to Anambra voters that INEC is fully prepared—both technologically and logistically—for the three upcoming elections in the state: the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election, the Onitsha North One Constituency bye-election, and the November 8, 2025, governorship poll.
“The Commission’s preparedness for these three elections is in top gear.
“We are going to ensure a level playing field for all contesting candidates and allow the electorate to decide who governs them come November 8, 2025.
“We appeal to you, the media, to support and work cooperatively with INEC to ensure a credible election in the state,” she stated.
The Commissioner also used the opportunity to commend the media and security agencies for their vital roles in the successful conduct of the 2023 general elections in the state.
