The cash transfers of N25,000 for three months to poor households and the vulnerable and also the N35,000 salary award to workers for six months for a start, promised by President Bola Tinubu to cushion the devastating effects of subsidy removal have not seen the light of day up until now.
How many people benefited from the avowed palliatives? The people are in pitch darkness. The people are in desperate days stricken by hunger. The President should speak out in the face of the overwhelming savagery of hunger in Nigeria for which the resilience of the average Nigerian can endure. Was it a political gimmick or clever plotting to ward off danger and calm frayed nerves or government inertia? If it is none of the above, then
President Tinubu should take steps to prevent a disaster that years of corruption and ineptitude pale by comparison. Nigeria gets exponentially worse in corruption and ineptitude with every successive government. You know why? A little leaven leaveneth the whole lot.
