
THE former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh collapsed in court this morning during his trial in the N400 million charged preferred against him by the Federal Government.
The former PDP spokesman collapsed while making his way to the dock when his case was called at the Federal High Court sitting before Justice Okon Abang, creating an chaos in the courtroom.
Metuh is said to be suffering from spinal cord injuries and had, on several occasions brought in court on a stretcher, when his health deteriorated and the trial Judge had denied him permission to travel abroad for treatment.
Meanwhile, Metuh’s counsel, Emeka Etiaba (SAN) has withdrawn from the trial, saying he cannot continue with the proceedings of the day with his client on the floor.
According to Metuh’s counsel, he is applying to withdraw because his client is obviously ill and has been confirmed by medical personnel of the court.
Etiaba, who said he knew that the court has refused to record him, announced his withdrawal when the trial judge insisted that the defendant should call his eleventh witness in the trial.
Metuh, who was brought to court in an ambulance, is facing a seven-count charge, along with his company, Destra Investments Limited for allegedly receiving the sum of N400 million from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Mohammed Dasuki (rtd) and used same for the political activities of the PDP in the 2015 general elections.
