For the alleged auction of government properties without following due process, Executive Chairman of Shira LGC has been summoned by the Bauchi State House of Assembly to appear before the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs today, Wednesday to answer questions relating to the allegations.
This followed a resolution reached following debate brought under matters of urgent public importance when the member representing Shira Constituency, Bello Muazu Shira, informed the House of how properties belonging to Shira Local Government Area were auctioned by the council.
According to him, some of the properties have been in existence since 1976 when the state was created but alleging that they were improperly auctioned by the Local Government Council.
He mentioned an overhead tank constructed in 1980 but was auctioned to an individual who completely removed it from the point it was sited, also, a filling station built in 1980 was auctioned.
He urged the House to come to the rescue of the people of the local government at a time when the economy is dwindling because according to him, some of the properties need only to be fixed for use by the public rather than auctioned.
Bello Muazu Shira also urged that the House should make sure that the law is respected, due process is followed and the properties should be returned to the people of Shira.
In his contribution to the debate, Saleh Hodi Jibir explained that it is good for the House to investigate how properties are illegally sold or auctioned.
He added that the matter has become a topic of discussion all over the local government but that Bello Muazu Shira should have contacted him before moving the motion being from the same local government to know what is really happening.
Saleh Hodi advised that when something like this happened, one need to be conscious and tactical to find out the reason for the auction and to who the properties are auctioned and the procedures and steps are taken before the auction because one can bring up this matter only to understand midway that due process was followed.
He, however, commended Bello Muazu for bringing the matter and urged the House to investigate.
Majority Leader, Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu advised that the Chairman of the Local Government Council should be summoned by the House and the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to thoroughly investigate the matter and he was seconded by Yunusa Ahmed representing Warji Constituency.
