Osun State Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Hon. Sarafa Awotunde, at the weekend, assured that the present administration, under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke, would ensure that people at the grassroots enjoy good governance through effective local government administration.
The chairman of the association made the assurance while speaking on the first anniversary of the governor in an interview in Osogbo.
Awotunde, who is presently the Chairman of the Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, argued that the last time quality governance was witnessed at the third tier of government in the state was during the Prince Olagusoye Oyinlola-led PDP administration.
According to him, this testifies to the people-oriented administration the PDP as a party is renowned for resuscitating local Local Government administration in Osun State, which has been a major priority of the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, since he assumed office last year and there is no going back in doing this. ”
“The third tier of government in the state had collapsed before Adeleke ascended the governorship seat; hence, concerted efforts have been made to return life to the tier since the PDP returned to power last year.”
“When we return to power, what we met at the local government is nothing to write home about. We were shocked at the level of deterioration in the various local government areas of the state.”
“Governance was dead at the third tier of government in the state; hence, efforts by the present administration to bring life to the third tier of government are there.”
“Presently, the Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairmen have been meeting with the workers at the level through Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, with a view to ensuring that confidence is returned to the workforce”, he concluded
