THE need for Nigerians to eschew rancour and promote national unity has been emphasised by the Alfathu-L-Qareeb Muslim Organisation of Nigeria.
National Missioner of the organisation, Dr. R-Rahman Kehinde Tijani, gave the admonition at the 20th anniversary of the body held at its headquarters at Ikeja, Lagos, last Sunday.
Tijani pointed out that Nigerians must learn to live together in harmony, regardless of their religious backgrounds, saying only tolerance would engender national unity, peace and development.

“Religious tolerance is very important for us in this country if we must move forward. Irrespective of our religious differences, we must always accommodate and tolerate one another to enhance peaceful coexistence.
“We should see ourselves as one. God has destined that we live together as a nation. We should accept it that way. Muslim and Christians should show love to one another,” Tijani said.
Also in his sermon, Dr Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef encouraged Nigerians to always ensure sincerity in all their dealings and do things for the sake of Allah, adding that one’s intention must be pure before any action.
“The moment one donates money or something with the aim of achieving a target, this is not in line with the tenets of Islam. You must expect your reward from Allah and not the praises, accolades you want to receive from people.
“Also, you must expect favour only from Allah as contained in Suratul Fatiha chapter 5 that ‘Iyyaa-ka na’budu wa iyyaa-ka nastaa eenu’, meaning “You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help.”
“So, the intention matters a lot before any good deed can be rewarded accordingly by Allah,” Abdul Lateef said.
