A US-based Yoruba socio-political group, under the aegis of Think Yoruba First (TYF), has congratulated Prince Abimbola Owoade on his emergence as the Alaafin of Oyo-designate, describing his emergence as a new chapter for Yoruba people.
TYF president, Oladimeji Bolarinwa, said this in a statement made available to newsmen by the group’s general secretary, Dr Bukola Adeniji, describing the throne of the Alaafin of Oyo as profound with cultural and historical significance.
According to the US-based Yoruba socio-political group, the Alaafin’s throne which Prince Owoade is about to ascend is rooted in the rich traditions of our ancestors, urging him to prepare for the tasks ahead by imbibing “the indomitable spirit of the legendary Oranmiyan, the progenitor of the Oyo Empire, whose courage, wisdom, and visionary leadership is said to have laid the foundation for the greatness of the Yoruba race.”
“His (Owoade) emergence signifies a new chapter for the Yoruba people, one rooted in the rich traditions of our ancestors and the enduring legacy of the Alaafin throne.
“As you prepare to ascend to this revered position, we implore you to imbibe the indomitable spirit of Oranmiyan—the legendary progenitor of the Oyo Empire, whose courage, wisdom, and visionary leadership is said to have laid the foundation for the greatness of the Yoruba race,” TYF said.
The Yoruba diaspora group noted that the spirits of Oranmiyan, Sango, Kori, Abipa, Obalokun, Ajagbo, and Atiba were of valour, and relentless pursuit of progress, saying such values remained essential for the prosperity of Oyo and the entire Yoruba nation.
It charged the Alaafin of Oyo-designate to always prioritise the collective welfare of the Yoruba people, that he should let the unity and cultural heritage of Yoruba land guide his reign and also ensure that his leadership shines as a beacon of hope for generations to come.
“The spirits of Oranmiyan, Sango, Kori, Abipa, Obalokun, Ajagbo, and Atiba are of valour, and relentless pursuit of progress; values that remain essential for the prosperity of Oyo and the entire Yoruba nation.
“We charge Your Imperial Majesty to always prioritise the collective welfare of the Yoruba people in every action and decision.
“Let the unity and cultural heritage of Yoruba land guide your reign and let your leadership shine as a beacon of hope for generations to come. Now, more than ever, we need a leader who will inspire the Yoruba people to embrace our shared identity, confront challenges with resilience and build bridges of progress across diverse communities,” TYF said.
“As you ascend this throne of your ancestors, may you be blessed with wisdom, strength, and grace to fulfil the sacred duties of your position. Congratulations once again, and may your reign be long and prosperous,” the group prayed.
