Akwa Ibom CP declares zero tolerance for indiscipline among officers

The Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has declared zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct within the Command, warning that any officer found wanting will face strict sanctions.

CP Azare made this known on Monday during the first management and strategic meeting of 2026 with senior officers, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and tactical commanders of the Command.

At the meeting, the Police Commissioner directed the immediate enforcement of the Inspector-General of Police’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel attached to Very Important Personalities (VIPs) not legally entitled to armed escorts.

He emphasised that the move was intended to free up manpower for core policing duties and enhance public safety throughout the state.

According to him, “Police officers must be deployed to serve the larger interest of the public, not private individuals who do not qualify for such protection.”

CP Azare also reiterated the Akwa Ibom State Government’s Executive Order regulating masquerade operations, directing all Area Commanders, DPOs and tactical team leaders to ensure full compliance.

He warned that violations of the directive would attract the full weight of the law in order to maintain public order and safety.

While commending officers and men of the Command for their dedication in sustaining relative peace and security in 2025, particularly during the festive period, the Commissioner urged them to consolidate on the gains recorded and raise the bar of professionalism.

He issued a stern warning against misconduct, extortion, and any behaviour capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the Command’s leadership would not shield erring personnel.

The Commissioner further instructed officers to maintain a neat appearance, civility, and a courteous attitude in their dealings with the public, reminding them that policing is a service-oriented profession.

CP Azare reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents of Akwa Ibom State of improved security and a more people-friendly police force in the year ahead.
