The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that its ongoing electronic registration of members is mandatory, describing the exercise as a critical reform aimed at strengthening the party’s internal democracy, structure, and electoral preparedness.
The party’s spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said in a statement on Tuesday that the e-registration exercise, which commenced on Sunday, will run until the end of January, allowing sufficient time for both existing and prospective members to be captured in a unified digital database.
According to him, the initiative is designed to eliminate irregularities associated with manual membership records, including duplication, impersonation, and what he described as “shadow membership arrangements.”
“The e-registration exercise is not optional, cosmetic, or expendable,” the statement said, adding that it reflects the APC’s commitment to order, transparency, and credible internal processes in line with modern political standards.

Oladejo added that a verifiable digital register would provide a level playing field for all members, reduce gatekeeping, and ensure that party participation is based strictly on constitutional provisions rather than informal structures or undue influence.
He further noted that credible congresses, transparent primaries, and legitimate leadership selection depend on the existence of an accurate and reliable membership register, warning that resistance to the exercise could undermine internal cohesion.
Beyond internal administration, Oladejo described the e-registration as a strategic tool for mobilisation, particularly among youths, professionals, and first-time participants who expect efficiency and clarity in political engagement.
He also said a data-driven membership system would enhance grassroots coordination, campaign planning, and voter outreach, arguing that a party with accurate knowledge of its membership base is better positioned to compete electorally.
“The outcome of this exercise will firmly affirm the APC as the most dominant political party in Nigeria, with a verifiable structure and growing membership,” the statement said, contrasting this with what it described as the opposition’s “assumed strength.”
The Lagos APC urged all members and stakeholders to participate fully in the exercise, stressing that non-participation would amount to a disservice to the party and its progressive ideals.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to reforms and expansion, insisting that the e-registration exercise signals its determination to build what it described as a stronger, fairer, and future-ready political organisation.
