Ajaokuta Steel workers hail Prof Abdulsalam’s appointment as MD/CEO

The leadership of the workers’ unions operating in Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited has commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for the appointment of Professor Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the company.

This was contained in a congratulatory message jointly signed by Comrade Ibrahim Audu Abdulraman, Chairman of the Iron and Steel Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ISSSAN); Comrade Saliu Idowu Adinoyi, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Mines Workers (NUMW); and Comrade Usman Bashiru, Chairman of the Steel and Engineering Workers Union of Nigeria (SEWUN), all of the Ajaokuta Steel Company branch, and made available to journalists in Lokoja.

According to the union leaders, the appointment showcases President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting regional representation and his readiness to revitalise the steel industry. They noted that the appointment is also a testament to the impressive résumé, experience, and competence of the newly appointed MD/CEO.

The statement read in part:

“We, the leadership of the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited Workers’ Union, namely the Iron and Steel Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ISSSAN), the Nigerian Union of Mines Workers (NUMW), and the Steel and Engineering Workers Union of Nigeria (SEWUN), on behalf of the entire workforce of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited, extend our heartfelt congratulations on your appointment as the Managing Director and CEO of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited. This appointment is a testament to your impressive résumé, experience, and competence.

“We also express our gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing you, a son of Kogi State, as the Managing Director of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited. This appointment showcases President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting regional representation and his readiness to revitalise the steel industry.

“Your appointment comes at a time when Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited is facing existential challenges of monumental proportions, which we believe can be surmounted with all critical stakeholders working together.
