For the third time this year, the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) has postponed the Local Government election earlier slated for August 14.
It would be recalled, that on two different occasions the LG polls was postponed this year.
The new date according to the state electoral body is September 4, 2021.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the state electoral commission, Dr Saratu Binta Dikko, while speaking with political leaders and stakeholders on Monday.
She said the various postponements lack of proper arrival of some election materials, late arrival of Battery from China that would power the Electronic Voting Machines among others were still responsible for the shifting of the new date.
Dikko who commended the political parties for their support said the action of the commission was inevitable.
According to her, the commission will now have ample time to allow election activities to be completed in order to ensure a credible local government election.
However, leaders of political parties and other stakeholders present at the meeting however mixed feelings over the development.
Reacting to this development, Danjuma Sarki a stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) noted that the postponement might not be unconnected with the fact that the ruling party are jittery over possible defeat.
“It is unfortunate that an election body like KADSIECOM will be postponing the election for the third time over a flimsy excuse.
However, Kaduna State Chairman of later-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mikailu Abubakar, expressed satisfaction with the commission’s genuine commitment towards a free, fair and credible election.
He said the IPAC were satisfied with the new date because is better to get it right than to start and we get it wrong.
