Accord supported Makinde’s re-election for good governance, says Peller

Oyo North Senatorial candidate of Accord and a member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, Honourable Shina Peller, has said that the party’s support for the re-election of Governor Seyi Makinde was for good governance.

Speaking with journalists during a stakeholders’ meeting of the state Accord held on Saturday in Ibadan, Peller said coalition was to serve the interest of the generality of the people of the state to ensure continuity and overall development of the state.

He recalled that during the Presidential and National Assembly election, the Accord was unable to win any seat out of the three senatorial seats and 14 House of Representatives seats in the state, saying their governorship candidate, Chief Bayo Adelabu even lost in his polling unit during the election.

He said the development and more caused the party’s hierarchy to go back to the drawing board and took a decision to enter into a coalition with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to serve the interest of the people.

“We came out of an election without winning any of the three senatorial seat and 14 rep seats. We are a third force party, a new party for that matter.

“We competed with All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP, so the only thing we had to do then was to look for the best candidate out of the APC and PDP; and find a way of forming a coalition.

“All the technicalities that had been put in front of our governorship candidate were facts; even our candidate did not win in his polling unit. These are very important facts that we paid attention to,” he said.

The lawmaker expressed happiness that his party was not blinded by political party ideology or religious sentiment, but putting into consideration the interest of the people.

“We are happy that we were not blinded by our political party’s ideology, our religious interest, but putting into consideration the interest of the people.

“I believe this is the most paramount interest that should be protected in politics,” Peller said.

Peller said Makinde had done well for the people of Oke Ogun by bringing developmental projects to the zone.

Also, Mrs Adebukola Ajaja, the National Secretary of the party, said that they have seen the future of the party, hence Makinde was supported for re-election.

“We saw the future of Accord and felt we don’t want our people to suffer. There was a kind of coalition between executive and candidates at the just-concluded general election,” she said.
