In furtherance of his resolve to better the health of his constituents, Senator Theodore Orji, at the weekend took delivery of modern tricycle medical ambulances for health centres in the Abia Central Senatorial zone, donated by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

The ultra-modern tricycle ambulances were fabricated in Nigeria and feature all that is seen in a four-wheel regular ambulance, including stretcher, oxygen masks and cylinder, telephone accessories, seats for a Doctor and other medical personnel, and other medical equipment and accessories.

According to Senator Orji, since most primary healthcare centres are in rural areas, the ambulances are designed to beat the traffic and are very much compatible with the rural environment.

The Senator noted that he would not joke with the health of his constituents and would therefore do all within his limits to ensure that the health centres he built across Abia Central functioned fully.

Explaining further, the Abia State Liaison Officer to the Senator, Hon Ifeanyi Umuere, said the ambulances came as part of the doggedness of Orji, stating that Abia Central is among the first two senatorial zones in Nigeria to receive the ambulances from NPHCDA.

“The NPHCDA designed the ambulance to meet their specification for rural adaptability and Ochendo is the second senator to receive his”Umuere enthused.

Umere said the ambulance are cheaper to maintain and are cost-effective, adding “The tricycle ambulances are by adaptation and size slim for easy movement and meandering in the event of traffic holdups

“Any motorcycle or Keke operator can drive it in a case of emergency,” Umere explained, adding that more were on the way.

He also disclosed that the first set of ambulances would be deployed to Ukome Health Centre, in Umuahia North Local Government Area, where borehole water had also been discovered for the first time in the history of the community.

The other ambulance, he said would be deployed to Umuariaga Health Centre in Ikwuano Local Government Area.
