Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are angling for various leadership positions of the party have been admonished to subject themselves to the will of God to make it the job of the party easier.

Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, who made the declaration in Abuja on Wednesday, reminded them the only God gives power to whoever he chooses.

Speaking at the inauguration of the newly constituted PDP caretaker committees of Lagos and Kwara states, at the national secretariat of the party, he warned that nobody could attempt to challenge God by thinking he/she was too rich or too important.

He urged party faithful to be patient and accommodate each other.

He said: “I must begin by commending all of you for the patience, perseverance and accommodation so far exhibited. And I pray that that patience, perseverance and accommodation will continue.

“Power comes from God. What we are going to be doing, let’s be guided by this singular knowledge that whatever we seek comes from God.

“You can’t be too smart to God; you can’t be too rich to him, you can’t be too poor. He can make you whatever he wishes, anyhow.

“But in human relationship, mutual respect for one another is important. So, I want you to continue to have mutual respect for one another and accommodate…You can pursue whatever you want to pursue legitimately knowing that the one that gives is God, not me, not any individual.

“This makes it easier to live with one another and swallow a lot of things. We can begin the more difficult job.

“Why do I say the more difficult job? Consult and set up caretaker committees in ward and local government areas immediately and that is where the real politicking is.

“When you get to local government, there is intense politicking. You go to ward, there is intense politicking. So that nobody that is part of you will be left out because there is enough room for accommodation.

“Power must return to the people. By the time we receive your report, then we are ready for elective congress because elective congress is a business for every card-carrying member of the party.”
