The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division concluded its 2025 Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition with a colourful closing ceremony at the Obstacle Ground on Friday, marking the end of four days of intense drills and spirited contests.
Major General Ibikunle Ajose, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the participants for their dedication, discipline, and professionalism.
Represented by Brigadier General Moses Udom Ikobah, he praised the energy and commitment displayed by the various formations throughout the event.
“This remarkable event is the product of hard work, discipline, and resourcefulness,” he remarked. “We have witnessed passion, resilience, skill, and professionalism—all of which reflect the combat readiness of our troops.”
General Ajose emphasised the importance of the competition as both a test of strength and a platform to enhance operational capabilities. He encouraged all participants—winners and non-winners alike—to take valuable lessons from the event and prepare for future challenges.
“We must continuously train and build the capacity needed to address evolving security threats within our area of responsibility,” he said, stressing that the competition significantly contributes to bolstering the troops’ combat effectiveness.
He also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. O. Oluyede, for his steadfast support and the provision of resources that ensured the success of the event. Additional appreciation was extended to the Chief Judge and the organising team, particularly the 8 Division Garrison, for their excellent coordination.
The ceremony concluded with the official declaration of the competition’s closure and best wishes for safe journeys to all participants returning to their formations.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to the top-performing teams. 8 Division Garrison secured first place, followed by 58 Signal Brigade in second place, and 48 Engineer Brigade in third.
