’77k na story for the gods’: Corps members react to receiving 33k in February

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has paid corps members their usual monthly allowance of ₦33,000 for the month of February, despite getting assurance from the Director General as regards an increase to ₦77,000.

Tribune Online reports that NYSC DG, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed had announced that Corps members will begin receiving a monthly allowance of N77,000 from February 2025.

Ahmed made the disclosure in January while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina.

Corps members react

Considering the assurance of the DG, A corp member in Rivers State said, “Although we got an information that there was going to be an increment in the allowance of corp members , I was not disappointed because I didn’t totally trust Nigerian government”.

I’ll celebrate them whenever they do it but before then I don’t plan to believe it so I wasn’t disappointed because I wasn’t expecting it and that is because I don’t trust the promises of Nigerian government. Thank you”, he concluded speaking said through a whatsapp group.

A serving Corps member in Abia State spoke of emotional issues she had at the sight of the 33k. She said, “I was heartbroken when I saw 33k but we move.”

Speaking about the prices of things and the economic inflation in the country, Peter in Kwara State said, “Beans is now 5k, rice almost going to 5k, Transportation money won kill me. Garri is my best friend. In short, I need the remaining balance”

In high hopes, Tunde in Oyo said is expecting a balance of 44k. He said, “All I have to say now is when should be expecting the 44k balance?”

In another reaction, a corps member in Niger state, said, “Well, What can I say? Put no trust in humans, put your trust in God”

An additional reaction from a corps member in Oyo stated, “He that puts his mind to the promise of the Federal Government shall later be heartbroken. Selah! 😂”
