The names of the suspects, as gathered by Nigerian Tribune, were notorious Philip Pele, Daniel Robinson and Tejiri Akpoture, on one side, and Daniel Odogbo, Philip Oghenevwede and Efe on the other.
Philip Pele and Philip Oghenevwede, it was gathered, were specialised in looting and snatching parked cars along roads in the axis with the aid of charms to detect if money is kept in them.
The two groups were nabbed at two points in the twin town of Warri and Effurun while carrying out their nefarious activities on innocent victims.
Pele, described as a wanted criminal, Robinson and Akpoture, as gathered, was arrested after one Mrs Tegha Ebi lodged a complaint at CSP Eyoh Anietie-led B’Division that she had been allegedly robbed of four Samsung phones, N300,000 and an unspecified amount of hard currencies at Link Road by Peemos Hotel in broad daylight.
While Akpoture, a house agent, was said to be innocent but caught in the company of the other two during the arrest, Daniel Robinson, one of the suspects was allegedly epileptic unknown to the police at B’Division.
Robinson, as gathered, eventually had a health crisis in the cell and was rushed to the Warri Central Hospital, but gave up the ghost after he was reportedly treated by medical staff.
Other suspects, Daniel Odogbo, Philip Oghenevwede and one Efe, were allegedly arrested for snatching a black Toyota Venza belonging to the mother of a staff of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) (names withheld) who was said to be cruising with his girlfriend at Nelson Williams Street, Off Ogboru/Okere-Urhobo community in Warri.
The suspects, after snatching the vehicle, it was gathered, also allegedly attempted to kidnap the NIMC staff, who, in self-defence, gave one of his assailants a jab before escaping with his girlfriend.
The suspects eventually fled with the Toyota Venza, later abandoned it and snatched another Toyota Corolla at Jakpa junction to escape from the area.
Nigerian Tribune further gathered that the suspects had the intention to travel to Ghana and so they headed to the NIMC office to obtain their national identity card.
Unfortunately, after having their data captured, the suspects were swiftly identified by their victim, the NIMC staff, whom they had confidentially robbed of his Toyota Avenza; he informed the police and they were rounded up.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta Command, CSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the death of epileptic Daniel Robinson in police custody and the arrest of other suspects, said they had all confessed to the crimes they were alleged of.
He added that the Toyota Venza had been recovered while the Toyota Corolla, the four Samsung phones and the physical cash in various currencies were yet to be recovered by the police.
