About 30 vessels laden with petroleum products, food items and other commodities have arrived in Nigerian ports. The ports include Africa’s largest container terminal and Nigeria’s busiest port, Apapa Container Terminal (ACT), Apapa, Lagos and Tin Can Island Port Complex (TCIP), Apapa, Lagos.
While some of the vessels have berthed and their content being discharged, others are awaiting to get berthing clearance.
According to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), no fewer than 30 ships laden with petroleum products, food items and other goods are expected to arrive Apapa and Tin-Can Island ports in Lagos in this month of May.
The ship, Desert Victory laden with 43,879 metric tonnes of bulk wheat is expected to discharge at the Apapa Bulk Terminal while another ship, Crystal Bay laden 37,807 metric tonnes of petrol will discharge at Petroleum Wharf, Apapa.
At the ENL Terminal, Green Austerol laden with 3,200 metric tonnes of frozen fish is also expected this month, among other vessels.
The ships are laden with bulk wheat, bulk sugar, frozen fish, aviation fuel, general cargo, Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO), base oil bulk gypsum, general cargo and containers laden with goods.
Similarly, two ships are expected to arrive with premium motor spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol. Other ships laden with general cargo are also expected to berth at Lagos ports.
Already, 10 of the ships have arrived the ports, waiting to berth with bulk fertiliser, container, aviation fuel, and petrol while 15 other ships are at the ports discharging empty containers, bulk wheat, frozen fish, bulk gypsum, general cargoes, containers and PMS.
