2023: Plateau Deputy Governor joins governorship race

Plateau State Deputy Governor, Professor Soni Tyoden has joined the race to occupy the Plateau State Government House in 2023 on the flagship of the All Progressive Congress (APC)

Professor Tyoden who made public his intention to run for the office of the governor at APC State Secretariat in Jos on Thursday pointed out that he has a great deal contributed to the development of Plateau State given his experience in the enterprise of governance for nearly seven years now.

The deputy governor narrated that he has been a passionate and uncompromising co-driver of the Rescue Administration led by Governor Simon Bako Lalong who is also the chairman Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF).

His words: “I can proudly declare that the Rescue Administration under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has redefined governance in the state and this explains the significant progress in the socio-economic and political development recorded in the state.

“My aspiration is partly motivated by the burning desire to sustain and possibly expand the frontiers of the legacies of the Rescue Administration in the state.”

Professor Tyoden pointed out that Plateau State is a microcosm of the larger Nigerian society in the sense that it is characterised by the same social pluralism such as ethnic, religious, cultural and linguistic diversity.

He further explained that governing a state that is as diverse as Plateau State requires one with a good sense of tact, strategic and critical thinking to build robust social cohesion and harmony among the diverse social elements as a necessary precondition for sound and effective governance.

The deputy governor, therefore, promised to improve on this and bring about seamless unity and harmony among the diverse groups in the state.

“Once we have been able to overcome the challenge of unity and integration in the Plateau State, the foundation for good governance that will make citizens radiate with happiness and contentment is laid. This will eliminate all sources of social frictions that have conspired to slow down the pace of development of the state,” he said.

He promised to run an all-inclusive government that reflects the social diversity of the state adding that youths, women and persons living with disability will be accorded the highest consideration in the composition of the government.

Responding, the State Chairman of APC Hon Rufus Bature assured the gubernatorial aspirant of a level playing ground adding that the party on the Plateau has become a force to be reckoned with.

He described the gubernatorial aspirant as an epitome of trust and goal-getter adding he worked with him for three years as the Secretary to the State Government and discovered that Professor Tyoden was humble and intelligent.
