Parading the suspects at Jere Divisional Police Headquarters, kaduna State yesterday, the Force Public Relations Officer, FPPRO, CSP Jimoh Moshood , disclosed that their arrest at their hideouts was made possible based on coordinated community engagements and intelligence gathering by the Inspector General of Police, IGP’s. Intelligence Response Team, IRT under the strict supervision of an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
He stated that the Team attached to Operation Absolute Sanity, working on actionable intelligence and in compliance with IGP’S directives to rid Abuja-Jere-Kaduna-Zaria highways and other major roads in FCT, Niger and Kaduna kidnappers, Armed Robbers and Cattle Rustlers arrested the suspects responsible for several Kidnappings including that of one Imam Hakeem Kosoko and others on Abuja – Kaduna Roads.
According to him, “most of the suspects were arrested in the act after an exchange of gunfire with the personnel of the IGP-Intelligence Response Team attached to Operation Absolute Sanity in their hideout along Kaduna – Abuja Road. Four victims were rescued from their captivity and have been reunited with their families”
He told Reporters that the suspects arrested confessed and admitted the various criminal roles they played in the commission of the crimes and. that Investigation was ongoing to arrest other members of the gangs at large.
He promised that all the suspects would soon l be arraigned in Court for prosecution on completion of the investigation.
The FPRO expressed the Police’s appreciation for the support and cooperation of members of the Public in achieving the success story being showcased before the public with a renewed commitment of the Force to guarantee the safety of lives and properties of the members of the Public.
Exhibits recovered from included Eight AK47 Rifles. Three Hundred and Twenty ) 7.56mm AK47 Ammunitions, Sixteen live Cartridges, One GPMG Ammunition with magazine, 2 pairs of Military Uniforms, Charms and Car breaking/unlocking tools
While answering news men’s questions, the 79 years old man who identified himself as “Abdulrasheed ‘ claimed that he gave out the firearms to his customers for a token of between, N3,000 and N4,000.
The Father of 25 Children who were caught various firearms told newsmen that he had been in the trade for so many years and that he started by selling his wares to the Villagers for hunting before he graduated to selling to outsiders.
Another suspected firearms supplier, Ismaila Yaya, told Newsmen that three AK-47 with 900 rounds of ammunition were caught with him waiting for his customers to come for delivery
Meanwhile, the FPRO has said that the Police High Command was worried over the increasing sources of Military Uniforms to criminals
He stated the IGP had ordered immediate thorough investigation to the dangerous trend in order deal with sources decisively
