Why is AIDS a syndrome and not a disease? What is syndrome?

AIDS is the result of untreated HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). Over time, HIV destroys CD4-T white blood cells, eventually leading to a syndrome, which just means a wide variety and group of signs and symptoms that occur together, characterizing a particular abnormality or condition. In the case of AIDS, the condition is a seriously deficient immunity that cannot fight off infections, which may impact an organ or process within the body. People don’t die directly from AIDS, but from related causes because HIV has robbed them of the immunity they once had. (AIDS – Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.)
