Veteran actress, singer and dancer, Salome Eketunde, popularly known as ‘Fijabi’ has revealed why she transitioned from being a popular actress and theatre practitioner to her new profession.
According to her, though she resolved to seek more knowledge, that alone was never the reason for her sheer absence on the screen lately.
The actress, in an interview with Kunle Afod, explained that she is currently a cultural explainer and expressed her excitement of how she has been able to train people in Nigeria and England.
She said, “I seek more knowledge. The reason you have not been seeing me is that I sought more knowledge. This knowledge that I seek, it is not the reason I moved from theatre but you know that if one is on a journey you can meet something else.
“So, I’m a theatre practitioner but in the course of it, I met my current profession. I now thought of adding the knowledge I have in theatre and my current work. I realized it can blend together. What I’m doing is called cultural explaining. I’m a culture explainer.”
Continuing, Salome Eketunde explained how her husband, Femi Bright, introduced her to Wale Adenuga whom she worked with not just as an actress, but a costumier and make-up artist.
Salome’s journey as a theatre practitioner did not begin with acting; dancing was her first choice then singing. She was trained by Ben Tomoloju but fully encouraged into full acting by Taiwo Hassan, Yinka Quadri and Araosan.
The actress has worked with Odunfa Caucus, Kakaki, Wale Adenuga Productions and many others.
