As controversies continue to trail the impeachment of the Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly Hon Nuhu Abok Ayuba, the majority leader of the House Hon Daniel Naanlong has started that sixteen members signed for his impeachment and was impeached for gross incompetence and financial misappropriation.
Speaking with Tribune Online, Hon Naanlong who said normal legislative procedures were strictly followed to pave the way for the speaker’s impeachment, also said the list of the 16 signatories to the impeachment was verified accordingly by the clerk of the house for confirmation before the allegations against him were reeled out.
“We suspended Order 14 to allow us to proceed with the procedures for the impeachment of the Speaker. The number of members in the House were twelve but 16 signed for his impeachment.”
He added that the house decided to change its leadership in order to save the institution and democracy from further damage on the account of the misconduct and violation of due process, and high handedness of the former speaker.
“After following due process and complying with the laid down procedures, 16 members signed for the removal of Abok who was subsequently impeached by the required 2/3rd of the members, including some PDP members who do not want to be mentioned for now.
The majority leader further accused the former speaker of undermining the APC led administration on the Plateau, adding Hon Ayuba has been using the resources of the house to fund the opposition party.
“He has been having an unholy alliance with the PDP simply because he wants to contest for House of Representatives on the platform of PDP in 2023. He has been making frantic efforts to undermine every progress of this administration, trying to blackmail the government, that it is not with the people or standing by the people.
“Since August the house has not been able to sit because we called him to account for his stewardship in terms of finances of the house. He has refused to open the house because he doesn’t want the discussion to come up.
“When the Governor wrote to the house that he wants to present 2022 appropriation bill, he declined to it three consecutive times. We have to beg him before he opens the house,” he said.
