Gout is a disease that results from high serum uric acid more than 7.0 mg/100 ml (Hyperuricemia). Body produces too much uric acid or the kidneys fail to excrete enough leading to hyperuricemia. Patients have inflammatory arthritis caused by the accumulation of uric acid (monosodium urate) crystals in the joints (knees, ankles, wrists). The needle-like uric acid crystals can form in the joints or soft tissues, triggering a gout attack.
Yes, dehydration can increase uric acid levels by reducing blood volume and kidney function. Foods to Avoid in Gout: Meats: Proteins from animal-based sources (e.g., red meat, organ meats) are often rich in purines, compounds that break down into uric acid during digestion and metabolism.
Organ meats (liver, kidney, brain) and Red meats (beef, lamb, pork) should be avoided.
Seafood: Shellfish (shrimp, crab, lobster) and fatty fishes fish (sardines, mackerel, anchovies, herring). Alcohol beverages. Certain Vegetables: Asparagus, cauliflower, spinach, and mushrooms.
