We will continue to fight bandits ― Buhari

The Federal Government will continue to fight the bandits in the Northern region and other parts of the country.

The President, Muhammad Buhari, disclosed this in Kaduna during a crucial meeting affecting the region on Thursday.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Buhari said he appreciated the efforts put by the Northern Governors in tackling insecurity affecting the region.

But he was quick to add that they have to put in more efforts to ensure that we secured the region and other parts of the region.

According to the President, the Federal Government will continue to fight the bandits.

In his address, the Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum, Simon Lalong, noted that in the present circumstances time has come to look at the role of traditional rulers in governance.

“Our traditional rulers are the custodians of our cultures and values and have also continued to play very crucial roles in mobilising, sensitising and orientating the citizens towards embracing the desired roadmap on issues.

However, the institution has complained of perceived neglect and lack of defined roles in the governance architecture of the country.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Governor Nasir El -Rufai of Kaduna State said we need enduring peace and security to ensure that our people can prosper and our states to develop.

According to him, “amidst the fears and despairs of the moment, we have a chance to offer hope and buoy up the spirit of our people.

The governor remarked that: “Our people are looking up to us for solutions. We need peace and security in the north and Nigeria.

“There is no time to engage in analysis-paralysis. There is no room to trading blame. There is no space for partisanship.

“Our people are in dire straits. We must discharge our duty as leaders to them by collaborating across all divides to solve the challenges that confront our region and Nigeria.

“Fate has entrusted with a duty, not only to provide a shelter from the storm but also to help find a way to remove the triggers of the storm.

Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, Gbong Gom Jos, Shehu of Borno, Emir of Zazzau, Emir of Kano were among the eminent personalities that grace the occasion.

Also, Governors of Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, Sokoto, Adamawa, Nasarawa, and Niger were in attendance. While states were represented by their deputies.
