Ahead of this Saturday’s ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the committee constituted by the national secretariat of the party for provision of nomination forms in Ekiti state has arrived the state, with a promise that all interested members will be allowed access to the form.
The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu had at the weekend raised the alarm that the state leadership of the party and the committee had connived to deprive members who were not loyal to the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi from obtaining the forms.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the alarm raised by the presidential aide might have made the national caretaker committee direct the committee in charge of the forms to return to the state in the interest of democracy and party cohesion.
A source said, “You know the media report of concerns by some party leadership from Ekiti state last weekend was everywhere and I believe this made the National Caretaker Committee do the needful in the interest of unity.
“The committee was in the state last week but left and drop the forms with the Paul Omotosho-led state leadership which I think made the leaders express their displeasure. But I can tell you everything has been resolved and the forms will be available.”
Speaking, the leader of the committee, Mrs Tolu Bamidele denied the allegations, saying every Interested member in the state would be allowed to obtain the forms and contest the ward congress on Saturday.
She added that those who have interest in elective positions across the 177 wards should pay the stipulated amount in the banks and bring the payment teller to the party secretariat to obtain the nomination form.
Bamidele said, ” As I speak with you now, I am in Ekiti state and we are ready to do work our work for the people. We are not for some group but for all party members who are interested in contesting for positions in the ward.
“Anyone who has paid money to the designated bank accounts or is willing to pay should bring the evidence of payment to the party secretariat along Ajilosun area of the state capital to obtain the form.”
She however stated that the window for obtaining the nomination form for the ward congress would close on Thursday, calling on party members not to express fear but show interest in the process.
