A potentially explosive situation was diffused at the Ogbo-Ogu Market in Onitsha, Anambra, thanks to the timely intervention of Labour Party national leader, Peter Obi, and Senator Tony Nwoye.
Tensions had been running high after a raid by the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) led to the confiscation of large quantities of adulterated, substandard, and expired drugs.
Traders at the market were outraged by what they saw as heavy-handed enforcement, and the situation threatened to escalate into a full-blown riot.
However, Obi and Nwoye stepped in to mediate, engaging in dialogue with both the traders and NAFDAC officials.
Through their intervention, they managed to restore calm and prevent violence, emphasising the importance of regulatory compliance for public health.
Their timely intervention has been praised for preventing what could have been a disastrous outcome.
