USAID-IHP donates 16,650 mama-kits to Sokoto PHCs

As part of the measure to reduce maternal mortality in Sokoto State, the United State Agency International Development -Integrated Health Program (USAID-IHP) has donated over 16,000 mama-kits to the state’s primary health care centres.

Speaking while handing over the items to the state ministry of health, the state director of IHP, Dr. Usman Ar-rashid who was represented by the state technical director, Dr. Fatima Muhammed said in addition to the items donated, IHP is also doing minor renovations in 40 primary health centers across the state this year.

He said the 16,650 bags of mama-kits which consists of all the needed delivery kits for expectant mothers at the rate of twenty-eight million naira.

Ar-rashid further disclosed that another sum of sixty-six million naira will be expended on the USAID-IHP donates 16,650 mama-kits to Sokoto PHCs rehabilitation of 40 primary health care centers this year.

“We are also working on another 40 primary health care centres against next year which will make it a total number of 80 health centers out of the 244 in the state.

“We are doing this to encourage our women to visit health facilities for their delivery which is more saver for them than delivery at home.”

Speaking in her remarks, the state commissioner for women and children affairs, Hajia Kulu Sifawa, commend IHP for the gesture in the state health sector. She said the materials will not only be useful for women in labour to reduce maternal mortality but also for the state health workers.

Speaking while receiving the donated items, the state commissioner for health, Dr. Muhammad Ali Inamme, described IHP as a partner in progress.

Others at the handing-over ceremony which took place at Murtala Muhammed Hospital, include the Waziri of Sokoto, Professor Walid Junaidu, amongst others.
