The third edition of Sokoto State’s quarterly Public Financial Management Roundtable, themed “Improving Compliance with State Financial Regulations and Addressing Audit Queries,” has shed light on the obstacles to revenue collection.
This one-day event, organized by the USAID State Accountability, Transparency, and Effectiveness (State2State) Activity, brought together accountants and cashiers from government ministries and agencies to deliberate on the implications of and solutions to obstacles affecting the implementation of the 2023 approved budget.
Usman Faleye, a USAID Public Financial Management specialist, addressed the purpose of the dialogue by listing the seven pillars of budget preparation and emphasizing the importance of timely imprest retirement.
After a recap of the last quarter’s dialogue, papers were presented on the following topics: a summary of 2022 Audit Queries related to the timely retirement of imprests/advances, the responsibilities of accountants and cashiers in ensuring internal control, and a presentation on recurring internal control issues across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.
Other papers presented covered filing monthly expenditure reports to enhance timely budget performance computation, the quarter three budget performance report, and an open discussion featuring questions, answers, and reactions.
