THE Joint Academic Staff Union of University of Maiduguri UNIMAID chapter has threatened to shut down the institution if nothing was done to secure the lives and properties of the community before next session.
The enhanced unions led by the Academic staff union of universities ASUU chair Dr Dani Mamman gave this warning Wednesday at a press conference at the NUJ centre in Maiduguri.
The unions warned that they as stake holders in the community will not stand by and wait until their members especially professors are killed amass before taking action to stop the lingering carnage.
They warned that after about eleven attacks on the main campus, it was time for management to wake up from its slumber and do something fast to stop the wastage of human souls orchestrated by boko haram through the back of the main campus.
“We wish to therefore passionately appeal to the acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to urgently intervene in this matter of great national and international consequence.
“We call on the federal government to take immediate steps to protect us from the onslaught of these desperate marauders through a special intervention.
“This is because the cost of the security project is beyond the management and the governing council.
“We hope that the federal government is not waiting for the death of our staff and students on a large scale before taking action on the matter. We wish to urge the federal government not to over stretch the patience and sacrifices of our members which has been taken for granted.
“For the avoidance of doubt, if no immediate action is taken to protect our members, we shall be compelled to call our Congresses to consider taking drastic actions which would not ague well to our students and their parents.
“We wish to categorically state that we would not guarantee the reopening of the university for the 2017/2018 academic session in October 2017 if the federal government fails to meet our reasonable demands” said Dr Mamman who spoke on behalf of all the other unions including the Student Union Government.
Four suicide bombers were arrested yesterday morning equally trying to get into the university community to unleash more terror.
JTF legal adviser, Barrister Gunda told the tribune that the women have since been handed over to the authorities of the Lafia Dole for further actions.
