NAGARI Nakowa and the Motorcycles Owners and Riders Association of Lagos (NNAMORAL) is set to reintroduce crash helmets to its members in Lagos State.
Mr Suleiman Raji, the Lagos State Chairman of the union, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that its members had realized the importance of using crash helmets as commercial motorcycles.
Raji said that wearing helmets had always reduced riders from becoming fatalities and recording less serious injuries from motorcycle accidents.
“We have been encouraging our members to be wearing helmets for many years back while riding motorcycles for commercial purposes.
“The state government enforced the wearing of helmets before, and now we are re-introducing compliance and enforcement among our members for safety purposes,” he said.
The union’s chairman noted that his members had been sensitised on the usage of the helmet.
According to him, some miscreants took the advantage of using it then to rob innocent people by covering their faces for being recognised.
“Our members have been properly sensitised on how to use the helmets and on how to guide against miscreants using the development to rob passengers,” he said.
Raji appealed to the state government to provide latest helmets to the union’s members for safety purposes.
