Earlier, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, LAPO Microfinance Bank (LAPO MFB), Cynthia Ikponmwosa, said LAPO MFB has continued to provide sustainable platform to ingrain competitive learning and building sound minds who will fit into the human capital need of the society.
“In a society where many children are deprived of access to quality, affordable, education and the attendant social distractions in our society, it is incumbent on state and non-state actors to provide critical intervention to these children for the greater good’, she posited.
The MD, who was represented at the ceremony by the Director, Corporate Communications and Branding, LAPO MFB. Oluremi Akonde, disclosed that LAPO Microfinance Bank Limited is an offshoot of LAPO NGO.
She added that the LAPO MFB and LAPO NGO share similar values, especially in the areas of social impact and human capital development.
Also, the Executive Director of LAPO Organisation, Honestus Obadiora, lamented that the Nigerian educational system is overwhelmed by the challenges of inadequate funding, poor infrastructural facilities, shortage of academic staff, brain-drain, weak monitoring and inspection.
He revealed that the annual secondary school quiz competition, instituted in 2006, is the organisation’s modest contribution to the rejuvenation of the secondary education sector of the country.
He said: “The quiz competition has advanced student’s understanding of science subjects and current affairs in Edo and Delta States, as well as provided a veritable platform for teachers and students to exchange ideas and learning over the years.
“Over 325 public and private secondary schools, drawn from the three senatorial zones of Edo and Delta States participated in the year 2023 competition.
“The best three schools from each of the two states of Edo and Delta were selected from the state-level preliminary stages to compete for the converted LAPO Trophy at the grand finale holding today (Friday).
“I am delighted to inform you that the management has approved the extension of the annual quiz competition to Ondo State, with effect from this year 2023′, he disclosed.
