House of Representatives member representing Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Honourable Akin Alabi, the Speaker, Oyo state House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North, South and Orire federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Youths in Parliament, Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala among others were in attendance during the 3rd edition of Umera Boost Conference held at the International Conference center, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The event which was held on Tuesday, 1st of October witnessed attendance of over 1,000 youths, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
In her remarks, the convener of the event and Founder Umera group, Olamide Alao-Akala, stated that the mission of the initiative is aimed at transforming the lives of youths and helping them realize their limitless potential through self-development.
Alao-Akala added that the initiative is also meant to inspire and equip youths with the skills and mindset required to thrive in today’s evolving world.
She further noted that the event served as a follow-up to a successful three-week skills acquisition program held in September, which offered free empowerment skills for over 600 youths.
Adding that the initiative covers a wide range of courses, including public speaking, digital analytics, business development, alternative medicine and wellness, broiler production, digital marketing, project management, personal branding, graphics, and product design.
Alao-Akala however urged Nigerian youths to explore sectors such as agriculture, where their energy and innovation could add immense value to the nation.
“Umera  Boost  Conferywas born out of a deep sense of responsibility. Growing up, I didn’t fully grasp the importance of living a purpose-driven life. With that awareness now, I want to give back by inspiring young people to discover their purpose and live with intention. Our goal is for every participant to leave with the understanding that they are made for more.
“There are countless opportunities across the agricultural value chain that require youthful innovation. This is one way young people can actively contribute to national development.”
While a panel session was also held by Notable speakers including, popular television presenter Tope Mark-Odigie, radio personality Ronke Giwa-Onafuwa, Chief Operations Officer, Umera Farms, Yemisi Adepoju, and Olanipekun-Armstrong, among others whose insightful contributions during the sessions empowered participants with knowledge for their personal and professional growth.
In his address, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin stressed the urgent need for policies that drive youth empowerment in Nigeria.
Adding that youth can thrive in sectors including, agricultural entrepreneurship, the digital economy, renewable energy, and the creative industry.
“It is time for Nigerian policymakers to place youth empowerment at the center of national development. The focus should be on enhancing entrepreneurial and innovative skills to address the growing issue of youth unemployment.”
Lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency, Honourable Akin Alabi urged participants to remain persistent in the pursuit of their dreams.
He said “Never relent. Keep pushing, stay  focused on your goals despite challenges, success will follow “
In an interview with journalists, lawmakers representing Ogbomoso North, South, and Orire federal Constituency, Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, emphasized the importance of political participation of Nigerian youths.
He said “Young people must actively engage in their communities and take an interest in political and constitutional matters to secure their future,”
“From monitoring grassroots projects to contributing to policy discussions, youth involvement is crucial for Nigeria’s progress,” he concluded.
