Two policemen attached to the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Odo-Ere, headquarters of Yagba West local government area of Kogi State were said to have been killed in a robbery attack on the bank.
The robbers, who were said to have invaded the bank at about 4.30, when it had closed business to customers, were said to have shot indiscriminately to announce their arrival.
The gunshots fired by the robbers were said to have hit two of the security operatives securing the bank.
The development made the passersby and the members of staff of the bank to run helter skelter for safety.
It was gathered that the heavy gunshots that made the area deserted almost immediately paved way for the armed robbers to have an unhindered access into the banking hall.
Metro further learnt that the presence of the headquarters of the Divisional Police Office (DPO), Odo-Ere, did not prevent the robbers from operating freely.
After the robbery operation said to have lasted over 30 minutes, the robbers were said to have escaped with yet to be ascertained amount of money.
The patrol van of the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) stationed between the borders of Kogi and Kwara states, was said to have later arrived at the scene of the incident to remove the remains of the policemen.
It was also gathered that the latest attack on the bank was about the third time that robbers would operate unchallenged.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kogi State command, William Aya, could not be reached for the command’s reaction over the development.
