Travel agent docked for allegedly defrauding client of N580,000

A travel agent, Musa Yusuf, on Tuesday, appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding his client of N580,000.

Yusuf,39, had collected the amount on the pretext of helping his client to get a South African Visa.

The defendant, who is facing a two-count charge of fraud and theft, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The prosecutor, Insp. Antonia Osayande told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in January at 10:30 a.m., at the Federal Fire Service Barracks in Surulere, Lagos State.

Osayande said that the defendant collected the sum of N580,000 from a client, Mr Adewale Benson, on the pretext that he would help him process a South African Visa.

She said that the defendant failed to process the visa and did not refund the N580,000 collected from the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 (1) and 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The chief magistrate, Mrs O. I. Adelaja, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until March 30, for hearing.
