The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti South-West Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, has used the opportunity of his meeting with elite to take stock of the progress of the community and commended sons and daughters of the community for their support.
Oba Alabi, who spoke at a gathering of Ilawe Quarter Head Chiefs, Obinrinle, Elerilawe, Olomodulawe and the elite of the community at a dinner meeting, expressed gratitude to the people of Ilawe for their support since he ascended the throne about five years ago.
Speaking on the progress recorded in the town, especially in 2016, the traditional ruler revealed that a Federal Government College was currently under construction in Afunremu in Okebedo area of Ilawe and thanked Lagos lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, for the project.
He announced that a group of educationists had also concluded plans to establish a private university in Ilawe, and explained that details would be made public later.
The traditional ruler thanked Governor Ayodele Fayose for plans to make Ilawe major roads dual carriageways in 2017, adding that the governor had visited the community with the contractor.
The royal father and the people at the meeting also resolved to address, as a matter of urgency, the menace of street urchins, otherwise known as ‘area boys syndrome’ in the town as well as the commencement of a banana processing project in Ilawe-Ekiti.
Oba Alabi expressed appreciation to Ilawe sons and daughters for investing at home, such as siting a hotel and a radio broadcast station, which, he said, was nearing completion.
He stated that the N7 million realised by the community during the launch of a civic centre could not “take the project beyond foundation level, hence the recourse to private entrepreneurship.
Among the Ilawe elite in attendance were Professor and Professor (Mrs) Idowu Odeyemi, General Yemi Adetayo (retd), DCP Biodun Alabi, Professor and Mrs Bode Asubiojo; Mr Femi Falana, Professor Akin Fadamiro, Professor Ife Akomolede, Professor Dele Olajide, Professor Kayode Alese, Dr Adetayo Alabi, Chief Yemi Adaramodu, Honourable Jide Egunjobi.
Others are Chairman of Ekiti South-West Local Government, Mr. Lanre Omolase; Honourable Wale Onigiobi, Prince Oriwaye Adefolalu, Mrs Funke Anjorin, Mrs Yemisi Ayokunle and the leadership of IIU, Ilawe both at home and in Diaspora.
