CHAIRMAN, Ekiti State Board for Technical and Vocational Education, Honourable Kayode Babade, has declared that technical education is the major essential in the efforts at improving the national economy.
This was as he disclosed that all is set for the accreditation and re-accreditation of all courses in the six technical and vocational training centres in the state by National Board for Vocational and Technical Education (NABTEB).
Babade made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, adding that the state government would deploy massive investment in the sector to achieve its set goal and meet the demands of the people of the state in the labour market.
The technical colleges are located across the three senatorial districts in the state: Ado-Ekiti and Ijero-Ekiti for Ekiti Central; Iluomoba-Ekiti and Igbara-Odo in Ekiti South; and Otun-Ekiti and Ikole-Ekiti in Ekiti North Senatorial District.
Babade said, in readiness for the accreditation of the technical colleges by NABTEB, “the government will commence the installation of the laboratory and workshop equipment at the technical college, Ado-Ekiti today [Monday] and in fulfilment of the determination to resuscitate the colleges.

“For a government that wants to join the global technology league table, learning facilities in its technical schools should be regularly updated. Achieving technological advancement is not just playing to the gallery; it is about showing commitment and matching words with reality.
“The equipment, when operational, will enable the students to receive various training in vocational and technical subjects and prepare them to compete with favourably with their counterparts in the labour market.
“Very soon, the technical schools at Igbara-Odo, Ijero and Otun-Ekiti, in the first phase of the government determination to make technical education a toast of all in the education sector, will be upgraded to international standard.
“The Technical College in Ado-Ekiti has been adopted as a standard on how a technical college should look like in terms of infrastructure and equipment.”
He lauded the vision and mission of Governor Kayode Fayemi to resuscitate all the technical schools in the state to develop and empower youths in skill capacity building and acquisition to be self-reliant.
He also added that the government had also concluded arrangement to renovate all hostels and sports centres of all the colleges to make them more conducive for students.
